All I’ve heard on the radio for the past two days has been an endless string of adverts for all the post-Christmas bargains to be had on the high street and online. I’m always sceptical but one thing I’m certain of is that I do not need a brand-new TV with all the latest add-ons and features! Yesterday, I braved the wind, rain and hailstones to pick up a bargain of my own, which I spotted through a local Gumtree ad.
After six-weeks of living out of black bags, I’m finally able to say that I have acquired a chest of drawers for my bedroom!

It’s almost official now that I’ll be moving home sometime within the next month. This past week, I’ve found a flat that is affordable and it’s enough for my needs. There’s still the issue over workshop contents and self storage to be encountered but, with winter only weeks away, a quiet period is often expected at this time of year. The only difference now is that I won’t be ‘awakening’ from hibernation in the spring. I can look back on 2013 as a positive year. By far, it’s been more productive than either of the last two years and my following on YouTube has increased by more than 300% – I do intend to keep my presence active on that channel but I’ll delve in to that another time.
Now, my attention turns to furnishing my next home.

I’ve been back in my mum’s house for over a month now but, some of my old habits from living alone still remain with me. For example, my clothes storage ‘system’ leaves a lot to be desired…
‘Worn’ clothes (but, not ‘dirty’ enough to pile in to the washing machine – it must be a man thing!) tend to hang around until I feel they’re ready to be cleaned. I have a set of work clothes that I’ll wear for five-days and, each night, I like to have something comfortable that I can easily change in to without having to sort through my wardrobe and drawers. But, this clothes end up all over the place – on top of the drawers, on the back of my chair and, even though I recently bought in a canvas unit to try and help with the situation, I need something more.
In an effort to get myself in to the workshop, I’ve started brainstorming some ideas on solutions I could make…

Last Friday, I did take a trip down to Yandles in Martock, Somerset for their annual Autumn Woodworking Show. Not for the first time though, I managed to leave without spending a penny (in both senses!). That’s not to say that they didn’t have a nice selection of timber on offer – there was maple, cedar, American cherry and sycamore, among others. Many of the boards were near-sap-free and the prices didn’t look too bad either. I just hate shuffling around confined spaces with hundreds of other people also trying to do the same.
So, while I couldn’t make a decision on which or what to use on the door panels to complement a bathroom cabinet (I already have the ash) that I was complementing, I’m back at the drawing board (Google SketchUp) with my mind set on an alternative project with which to end this woodworking year…
It’s a tallboy; a narrow, single-width chest of drawers for the storage of clothes.
