It’s not that often I go walking on the very hills that are only a stone’s throw from my home. But having suffered with a cold for the past week, lying low on energy levels and having hurt my back; I didn’t feel like travelling or walking too far.
Starting from Burrington Combe after a ten-minute drive, I was to embark on a unusually short adventure up and over the Mendip Hills.

From Pensford, there was only one direction I would be heading next and that was uphill, in my pursuit of an ideal lunchtime stop.
According to my brief notes, it was somewhere between 11.00 and 11.30 that morning, as I joined the Three Peaks Walk, once again.

Sunday 3rd January 2016
Wet weather apprehended my plans for a short New Year’s Day walk and the following day wasn’t much better. Sunday morning began with an overdose and rain and gloom. By lunchtime and, as forecast; the clouds maintained their own moisture and I decided to take a chance, carrying my waterproofs with me just in case.
This was my first visit to Brean Down in Somerset since July last year.
