Quantock Hills Walk – October 2016

Sunday 2nd October 2016

Barely two-months from the end of the year and I was keen to get another walk submitted to Brunel, so that I could reach another personal goal of having led five walks in 2016. A feat I had not achieved since 2014.

There were many locations I could’ve chosen and a few ‘difficult’ pre-walks along the way… Once again, I found myself returning to the familiar Quantock Hills.

Southern Quantocks – June 2016 (Part 1)

Saturday 11th June 2016

I sit down to write this, twenty-four hours after leading the group on this very walk in the southern half of the Quantock Hills. It was only eight-days ago that I finalised this route, having spent the previous months pre-walking, only to arrive at broken stiles and horridly overgrown footpaths.

In these posts, I’ll document my finalised route.

Southern Quantocks Walk (Part 1) – April 2016

Saturday 23rd April 2016

Another month in 2016 and another opportunity to complete a circular walk within the southern region of the Quantock Hills.

Like each of my others previously; this one began in Broomfield, with the plentiful of parking opportunities at Fyne Court. So, let’s skip ahead to join the walk at the top of Cothelstone Hill, one-hour and almost three-miles in.

Quantocking in Winter (Part 1)

Sunday 28th February 2016

With an eye on completing a successful circuit around the southern half of the Quantock Hills last month, I headed deeper down in to Somerset for a reasonable walk.

Previous walks have led me to the discovery of several obstructed and inaccessible footpaths towards the end of each walk… Would this outing deliver the same outcome?

Winter Solstice (Eve) Walk 2014

A Merry Christmas to one and all! My own festivities don’t begin until later in the day and so, I find myself with some time on my hands. It’s been hard committing to sit down and write here recently with so many other ‘important’ things going on that have needed attending to but I feel that beginning to ease this morning and I’ve decided that now is a fine time to sit down and write about my walk on the eve of the Winter Solstice.

Quandry on the Quantocks (Part 1)

One week after a rather abrupt end to my first walk-leading experience over the northern Quantock Hills and I returned to deepest Somerset to pre-walk a route I’d devised that would introduce another group of followers to the southern stretch of these beautiful hills.

My Second Home

Having already led three walks for the local walking group this year, I’m determined now to make it up to five before the year’s out. I’ve known for a while that I want to make No.4 an exploration of the Quantocks (which is fast becoming a second home to me, not too far south from the Mendips) but to try and fit it all in to one walk would be extensive… So, I’ll more than likely include a second walk for people to discover the southern parts of the hills.

Cairn at the top of Woodlands Hill – the Quantocks, Somerset.

Yesterday, after a fortnight’s worth of evenings planning and tinkering with the route, it was time to pre-walk it.
