Ludlow Castle

Thursday 25th August 2016

It was raining lightly by the time I arrived at the entrance to Ludlow Castle. I can’t remember whether or not I was expecting a ruin of a building to offer some form of shelter but I know I wasn’t prepared to pass on the opportunity to visit and explore.

Exploring Ludlow

Thursday 25th August 2016

Following my final night in Shropshire, I awoke early the next morning to a cold and damp environment. Outside of my tent, I could see little but grey cloud all around. Much of hilly landscape has disappeared overnight.

I had hope to be able to do a final walk up to Brown Clee Hill – I even drove out to the start of the walk after packing away my gear. But, the conditions were only here to stay. I didn’t fancy getting wet feet or an exerting climb up to a hilltop without views.

So, several hours ahead of schedule, I paid a visit to the Medieval town of Ludlow.

Wroxeter Roman City

Wednesday 24th August 2016

During my time in Shropshire, I felt an urge to do and see as much as possible, within the four-nights and five-days of my stay.

Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley (Part 2)

Wednesday 24th August 2016

Having arrived at Lightspout waterfall, I now faced two options in continuing this walk…

Either way, I was destined for the summit of the Long Mynd.

Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley (Part 1)

Wednesday 24th August 2016

This was it. A walk I had been highly anticipating, in the run-up to my Shropshire Hills getaway.

It began with a drive to Church Stretton, where I’d be looking to explore the Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley.

Bishop’s Castle

Tuesday 23rd August 2016

On the eve of what would become my second walk in Shropshire, I returned to my camp site with a need to purchase lunch for the next day.

During my trip to Harry Tuffins near Churchstoke the day before, I walked the many aisles without finding a single sandwich. While I did buy some other things, I must admit, I do like my bread.

Wenlock Edge

Tuesday 23rd August 2016

Faced with an hour’s drive back to the camp site from my day at Ironbridge, I made a spontaneous stop along the way.

See, I’d heard of Wenlock Edge. Its name even shares half of the title of one of my OS maps for Shropshire… But, I knew nothing of it and had otherwise been prepared to bypass it in favour of other natural attractions.
