We’ve had some good weather recently but it has to be said that it’s been a little cooler than we could expect for this time of year. A month ago, things were quite different, especially down on the south coast where I was exploring the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Today, I’d like to begin recounting that walk which followed my first night’s sleep within a tent.
My intention was simply to walk west from Lulworth Cove (where I’d parked) to Ringstead Bay, which is around 6 miles. From there, I just wanted find a return route. I didn’t thoroughly plan anything in advance. It was more to do with finding sites of possible interest on my map and aiming for each in turn.
It was in this month last year that I began going out for walks and mini-adventures. I’d just bought myself a new camera for this purpose (Nikon S8200) and, thanks to something within me, I’d decided that I was tired and fed up of waiting for someone to come along with me. It was time to start flying solo. Time to get out of the workshop and to start seeing life. I’m some way from trotting the globe but I’ve been able to see and experience a lot of the local hills and landscapes. From Somerset to parts of Bristol I’d not even heard of; east to the city of Bath and up as far north as Cheltenham.
One of my most memorable walks is one that begins a mere fifteen-minute drive from my home and, as is my concept in submitting walks to the group I joined back in October or November; I’m looking to share this route with a group of people two-weeks tomorrow.
If you’re anywhere near Bristol or the south west of England within the next couple of months, it would be worth keeping an eye out for three furniture exhibitions. Two of these shows follow on from similar events that took place a year earlier. Sadly, due to financial reasons, I’m unable to take part this year. But, if these show are anything like what was witnessed last year then, you won’t want to miss them, if you have the opportunity to pay them a visit!
‘Inspired’ – The Great Oak Hall, Westonbirt Arboretum, Tetbury.

Of course, there is also one annual show for this region that I haven’t mentioned above and that’s the acclaimed Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design in Cheltenham. But, that’s not until the end of August.
