Double check the fan and any sources of moisture – that was something big you fixed…I wouldn’t want to do it again! I wonder what would cause that damage to the joists – did you ever find a culprit?
Well, a couple of pipes behind the toilet (one being the waste pipe) were leaking and it was clear the the silicone wasn’t doing anything, if it had even been applied properly.
There’s still this condensation issue around the cistern. I’m not aware of any fan but my dad keeps going on about ‘lagging’ it – I have no idea of how or if you could even do that to a cistern?
I’m sure ventilation through that rear wall would make a difference and we need to add more vents beneath the floor as well.
Ah – sounds like the joist issues was the pipes then. Is the condensation happening on the outside of the cistern then dripping onto the floor? That would indicated a pretty severe temperature change to me or rather insulation issues.
Yes, that’s exactly what appears to be happening.
It could be interesting to see if we get the same trouble during the summer (not central heating and a more constant temperature) but then, I’d also like to think it might be sorted by then…
How would you insulate a cistern?
